Help us Ban Greyhound Racing For Good

Greyhound racing is a barbaric industry that has no place in a so-called nation of dog lovers. Every year, thousands of greyhounds suffer injuries, neglect, and death—all for the sake of gambling profits. Despite growing public opposition and bans in countries like New Zealand, England continues to allow this exploitation to continue. We’re calling for a ban on greyhound racing in 2025, and we need your support to make it happen.

THE FACTS

A Greyhound's Route Through Racing

WE DON'T LIKE THEIR ODDS, DO YOU?

Racing greyhounds have to battle the odds at every dangerously sharp turn of their lives. How can a so-called nation of dog lovers continue to justify this slaughter for the sake of profit and 'entertainment'?

Please sign our petition today to show the UK government that we will no longer tolerate this atrocity.

INDUSTRY FAILINGS

1

DOPING

The use of performance-enhancing and sedative drugs in racing greyhounds is a persistent problem. GBGB's own records reveal frequent cases of greyhounds testing positive for drugs, including cocaine and anabolic steroids, and as a self-regulating industry, doping often goes undiscovered or unpunished.  Under UK law, drugs should only be administered to an animal as medical care, not to line the owner's pockets.

2

LIVING CONDITIONS

Racing greyhounds spend most of their lives in cramped, barren, concrete kennels with limited access to exercise and socialisation. These conditions often fail to meet the dogs' basic welfare needs, including but not limited to the following:

  •  Inadequate sanitation,

  •  No mental stimulation,

  •  Not enough room to roam,

  •  Little or no exercise for days at a time,

  •  Little or no bedding,

  •  Poor ventilation,

  •  Insufficient lighting,

  •  Little or no socialisation with humans or other dogs,

  •  Inadequate veterinary care.

SELF-REGULATION

The greyhound racing industry in the UK is self-regulated by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), leading to significant conflicts of interest that have been shown to compromise greyhound welfare time and again in the name of profit. For example, Directors within the GBGB can profit from racing dogs while simultaneously being employed as trainers or involved in track management.

We're currently working on a detailed report of the greyhound racing industry and its true impact on dogs, communities, and rescues in the UK. To be notified when we release our findings, please sign up to our mailing list below.

If you're an animal charity or rescue organisation and you'd like to sign our open letter to the Prime Minister demanding a ban in 2025, or to share your views/experiences of greyhound racing, please get in touch with us.
